The sun was beating down on the Space Marine as he trudged through the sand. He had been walking for hours, and his water was running out fast.
He was lost, and didn’t know where to find food or water in this hostile environment. The Space Marine had been on a mission to investigate a disturbance on a nearby planet. He and his team had been dropped into the desert, but quickly became separated. He had been walking for days, and was starting to lose hope.
Suddenly, he saw a mirage in the distance. It looked like an oasis, with palm trees and a refreshing pool of water. The Space Marine quickened his pace, but as he got closer, he realized it was just a trick of the heat. Dejected, he sat down in the sand and rested his head on his knees. He was tired, thirsty, and hungry. He didn’t know how much longer he could go on.
Suddenly, he heard a noise. He slowly stood up, and saw a sandstorm heading his way. He had no time to run. He could only brace himself for the impact. The sandstorm battered him, and he felt himself being lifted off the ground. He was tossed around like a rag doll, and then everything went black.
When he woke up, he was lying in the sand. The storm was gone, but he was badly injured. He had broken bones and deep cuts all over his body. He tried to stand, but his legs wouldn’t support him. He knew he wasn’t going to make it.
He laid back down in the sand and closed his eyes. He hoped his team would find him soon.
Swerty78 on Reddit has shared this small diorama inspired by Dune, the famous novel of Frank Herbert. It features a Space Marine dressed in the style of the Fremen, trying to survive on the hostile planet.
He has also shared the reference photo he used (made originally by eddy_gonz) and even a picture of the model before actually painting it, where you can see the different parts.
A lot of custom models, including this one, make extensive use of “Green Stuff” to sculpt new details or even completely modify a figurine. It’s a modeling epoxy that is easy to work with if you have the right tools, and is very affordable.
I have personally used the Green Stuff from Army Painter (not sponsored) and I can recommend it, but most others will work just as well. When it comes to learning how to use it, the small YouTube channel Last Light Creative has been a great resource for me.
